Sheri (Kathy)’s story

Sheri (36) has courageously battled chronic renal failure for several years. Now she is facing end stage renal disease due to vesicoureteral reflux as a child. We are told that her only real shot at a long and healthy life is to receive a kidney transplant as soon as possible. This coming winter, Sheri will receive the gift of life from her son, Jonathan, through a living donor kidney transplant. Through all this, her determination and fight for life are incredibly admiring and encouraging.

Currently, Sheri is completing her medical evaluation at The Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN. However, due to the extraordinary expense of transplantation, as well as Sheri’s inability to work, funding in this life saving operation is a monumental task. Despite having private insurance, many of the medical needs are not covered and must be paid out-of-pocket. Sheri will need between $20,000 and $40,000 for her lifelong immunosuppressant medications and $5000 before the doctors can start the transplant. Also, the expense of traveling to and from the center and then the relocation costs at the time of the transplant will be high. This presents a challenge she cannot face alone. To offset Sheri’s uninsured costs, her mother has set up a trust fund at Bank of America, and her friends have started a fund raising campaign.
